Fall Update and Head of the American 2016

The Aztecs are heading to Sacramento to compete in the Head of the American Regatta this Saturday! This will be the first race for the team this season and we are very excited to see how our training has been paying off so far. The team is taking a Varsity8, JV8 and a Novice8 to the 6,000 meter course on Lake Natoma, a course that feels like a second home for the Aztecs as it is the same venue of our regional championship in the Spring. I have been very happy with the work the team has been putting in on and off the water this year and really am looking forward to seeing where we stand on our fitness, both physical and mental compared to our competitors.crew-3-2016

It has been a productive two months for the team; between training, fundraising and recruiting the Novice athletes, the Varsity squad has been putting in many hours for this program. This will be my fourth year here at State and it is a pleasure to watch the leadership of this team grow. Every year has met and exceeded expectations and this year is no exception which is a challenge because last year the bar was set pretty high. The Varsity have really become a wonderful group of role models and mentors for the incoming novice and that can only mean great things for the future of the program. As always I want to shout out to our recent grads and let you know that your legacy is safe and thank you so much for helping shape this team. You are missed and we hope to see you as much as possible!crew-2-2016

Our novice team is four boats deep and full of potential, Coached primarily by our new Assistant Coach, Craig Doan; this squad already has some big goals. They have been tested a few times and have shown they are eager to belly up to the bar and do the work necessary to hold the high standard of this team. We are looking forward to our letter writing campaign in a couple of weeks so keep an eye out for the mail man J We will be sending out information as well as posting on our facebook and websites ways in which you can help this year, including a silent auction!

We hope to see as many of you as possible this weekend and hope we can welcome some new parents/supporters for our Novice athletes! We cannot wait to see and hear you out cheering for the Aztecs as they come cruising down the course.

Go AZTECS!
